Australian singer/songwriter, Tim Lane, has been a part of the music industry for many years. From playing lead guitar in numerous rock cover bands while at university to now creating original acoustic music, performing, and recording his signature sounds in studios.
Tim's music moves from acoustic ballads through to solid rock, with carefully crafted melodies and lyrics. Reminiscent of Crowded House, Hunters and Collectors, and other known Aussie acts, Tim's music deservingly has a place in the Australian music landscape.
In 2010, Tim teamed up with his mate Mark Baldock to form the rock duo The Backstick Agenda, a name inspired by a play on words from Tim’s musician son, Charlie. Around this time, Tim connected with Dave Minchin of The Giant Hamsters and shared a recording of his song “A Song for Jim.” The track was later produced by Dave Minchin alongside Michael Carpenter at Luv HZ Studios in Sydney, marking an important step in Tim’s original music journey.
In addition to his work with The Backstick Agenda, Tim performs solo shows in Hobart and has recorded a growing catalogue of original material, continuing to build his body of work.
Tim’s songwriting has also received recognition in national competitions. “Are You OK” placed 4th in the Ballad Section of the 2025 Australian Songwriters Competition. “Juliet” was shortlisted in the Top 30 of the Rock/Indie Section of the same competition, while “To Grow” was selected as a Tasmanian State Finalist in the Listen Up Music Competition.
